Microsoft confirms global layoffs, but not in India this time: Report

Microsoft is carrying out job cuts in offices around the world, but employees in India will not lose their jobs in this round, reported The Hindu Businessline.

Microsoft’s job cuts in the first month of 2025 are related to employee performance, with the company taking action against those who are falling short of expectations, reported CNBC, citing a Microsoft spokesperson.

Meannwhile, Puneet Chandok, President, Microsoft India and South Asia, told The Hindu Businessline that jobs were not being cut in India, and that more jobs were actually being created in the country.

The layoffs are set to affect fewer than 1% of Microsoft’s employees, reported CNBC, citing an anonymous source.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella visited India this month, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announced a  $3 billion investment in the country to strengthen AI and cloud infrastructure.
