YouTube is introducing an AI-powered feature similar to Google’s AI Overviews so users can look for content more easily. An “AI-powered search results carousel” will now appear when users are searching for “shopping, travel and things to do in a specific place”, a blog post said.
The carousel includes thumbnails of related videos for you to choose from and an AI-generated response that highlights the main topics around what you’re looking for.
“Imagine searching for ‘best beaches in Hawaii’ — you could see an AI-generated carousel highlighting clips from videos showcasing the best snorkel spots and volcanic beaches, complete with descriptions and more videos to plan your ideal day,” a blog posted by the platform noted.
The feature is currently available for just YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S.
The platform will also be expanding their conversational AI tool to non-Premium users in the U.S. soon.
The feature was rolled out in 2023 so users can get more details, recommendations and video summaries when trying to understand a video on the platform.
